Winter Wonders
We are thrilled to announce another 1-day behavioral program for children 3-6 years old this winter. We had beautiful success with our ‘Summer Sparklers’ and ‘Fall Foragers’ intensives and will be providing a similar opportunity this Winter led by: Alexa Effron, LMSW and Alexandra Lewis, LMSW
This program is designed to help young children build critical skills in:
Emotion regulation
Building bravery
Impulse control
Flexibility
Distress tolerance
Special Focus:
Holidays: Helping children manage transitions and disruptions in routine after holiday travels and celebrations.
Winter: Helping children cope with seasonal weather changes and activities.
Kindergarten: Preparing children to begin Kindergarten.
All in a small, supportive group environment (no more than 6 children per group), ensuring personalized attention and a safe space for growth. Activities are designed to be both engaging and fun, promoting social interaction and skill development.
Seasons Intensive
This December 2024, Milestones will be hosting a two-day intensive program for children, teens and young adults who have experienced loss led by: Laura Kirmayer, PhD, MSW and Nicole Kabalkin, DSW, LCSW
This group provides a fun, safe space to process grief and loss alongside peers who share a similar experience. As participants build community, they will explore their grief, along with the thoughts and any life changes they have experienced since the loss of their loved one. This intensive will include fun, camp-like activities to ensure that all participants feel comfortable and supported in a safe and healing space.
The program is open to current, former, and new patients. Before the start of the program, we will complete an initial consultation and we will provide an individualized plan to determine target goals and assess progress.
KIK: Kids Inspiring Kids
This is a virtual support group open for kids ages 9 to 12 facilitated by Laura Kirmayer, PhD, MSW
The KIK program is rooted in evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral skills (CBT). During this stage of development, cognitive skills become much more complex with a notable transition into increased levels of self-awareness and social-emotional awareness. Heightened self-consciousness and worries can be a symptom of this stage of development. These worries can cause distraction and disrupt social-emotional skills.
Goals:
I am not alone: We will place an emphasis on connection and validation between peers
I can learn and grow: We will provide developmentally appropriate psychoeducation on the developing brain and the relationship between cognitions, emotions, and behaviors
I can self care: We will teach CBT skills that can be applied on a daily basis. Each session will end with mindfulness skills and strategies targeting bedtime routines and sleep-hygiene
I can inspire others: Group members will compare notes on what's working and not working as they adjust their skills to match their individual needs
Parent scaffolding: Parents will be provided with a summary session of what has been covered and individualized recommendations on how to continue scaffolding their children through this often exhausting stage of development
